Percentage Decrease Calculator

Find the percentage decrease from an original value to a smaller new value.

How to use this calculator

Enter the old value and the lower new value. The result shows how much the old value fell in percentage terms.

Example

Going from 120 to 90 is a 25% decrease because the drop of 30 is one quarter of 120.

How do you calculate percentage decrease?

To calculate a percentage decrease, subtract the new value from the original value, divide that difference by the original value, then multiply by 100. The formula is: percentage decrease = (original value − new value) ÷ original value × 100.

Example: a value falling from 120 to 90 is a 25% decrease, because the drop of 30 divided by the original 120 equals 0.25, or 25%. If the new value is larger than the original, you have an increase instead.
