Percentage Increase Calculator

Find the percentage increase from an original value to a larger new value.

How to use this calculator

Enter the starting value and the new larger value. The calculator compares the change against the starting value.

Example

Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase because the gain of 20 is one quarter of 80.

How do you calculate percentage increase?

To calculate a percentage increase, subtract the original value from the new value, divide that difference by the original value, then multiply by 100. The formula is: percentage increase = (new value − original value) ÷ original value × 100.

Example: a price rising from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase, because the gain of 20 divided by the original 80 equals 0.25, or 25%. If the result is negative, the value actually decreased.
